Lexical Innovation Processes of Youth Netspeak on Malay Twitter Posts

The formation of neologisms in Malay has not been extensively studied and therefore yet to be fully understood. current study examined the lexical innovation processes Twitter posts Malay. A 25,679-word corpus was compiled from 2,000 tweets 200 Malaysian users their twenties. textual analysis performed through AntConc software identified “ ni ” (this) nk (want) as top two neologisms, these words constituted 45.8% corpus. Most are formed clipping (65%) pseudo-elliptical construction (26%), while blending (7%) elongation (2%) minor word processes. affects vowels (28%) more than consonants (9%), whether it is deletion, replacement, or addition. constructions involve letters alphabet phonological adjustments consonants. On vowel changes, results show that there a simplification diphthongs monophthongs, movement towards middle position [e] [o].
